About a Girl
Mise en scene- With in the short film the setting that we are shown are location that can be found in most towns and the locations that have been chosen with for the short film also help to add to the realism to the short.
The props of that are used in the film are able to help the viewer to understand the situation of the young girl, mainly the scratch card that we see her mum has and the way that her mum looks while checking it we can get the impression that their financial situation is not the best as the mum is hoping to win so that she can afford more for he children than she already has.
The costumes that we see for the young girl in the short film are more or less the same and from this we can get the idea of her families finical situation as she has a limited wardrobe as her mum can not afford a more than a few changes of clothes.
Sound- The sound that we can hear within the film is the spoken dialogue and with the dialogue we are able understand where this is set because of the accent that they have as it is distinct and every one around has a similar or the same accent.
As well as having diegetic sound which is adding realism to the film as we can hear all the background noise and any other sounds that the characters will be able to see.
Editing- The editing for the film is all done using parallel cuts so that we are able to see the girls past this is good as it adds a wide context along with what she is saying such as
- when she talks about her dad taking her to the pub after football.
Camera work- The camera work with in the short film is handheld and this is able to add realism to this short film. In the short we are always looking up at her character this can be so that we know she is important to the narrative of the film, she is looking at the camera breaking the fourth wall and because of this she is able to move that narrative along as she is tell us.
Representation- The way that the father is represented is a father that is distant from his daughter as he is dismissive when she is saying that she wants to live with him instead of her mum but is dismissed by him and from this we can also get the idea that the dad is neglecting his children because when he takes her out it is where he wants to go rather than where the girl would like to go. So in terms of how the dad is represented he is a distant and has no real interest in his daughter.
Signs
Mise en scene- In the film the main character that we follow is a man called Jason from the look that he has on him face and the way that he is moving we can tell that he doesn't have any friends and is depressed because of this and we are able to later find out why he is alone and this is because he moved to the city.
The setting for this short film is realist as it set in the city and locations that we see within the city are the main characters apartment and his work.
Sound- The sound throughout the short film is the main sound that we get to hear is music and this is able to help set the tone of curtain parts of the film for example when the character is depressed the music will reflect this and the same can be said for when things seem to get better as the music get more up beat than before.
Editing- The editing that is used within the short is a straight cut this has been done because:
- It can keep the pace of the film constant
- The straight cut can also make it so that the film will flow better than using different editing techniques.
Camera work- The shots that are used the most throughout the short are close ups and medium shots
the reason that the are used is to show that character facial expression clearly and also to see the changes in the character when things seem to be going better for him, also we are able to learn more about the different character as most of the film is doesn't have much dialogue the camera is able to fill in the blanks.
Representation- I think that the representation within signs is that:
-you are able to meet people in the most unlikely of places
-people don't need to be able to hear each other to form a relationship with one another.
Camera work- most of the shots types that have been used are close ups and medium shots the reason that i think they used those shots is because it will help to so the emotions of the different characters when it is need, especially in the last shot of the short film where one of the characters reaction is very important to the end.
Sound- The sound that is used in the short, there is the narration from the main character this can help give more explanation of their situation and can explain a bit more about the plot of the short with out giving us all the details so that we can fill in the blanks. There is also a sound track that is used and this can help to give an idea of the tone of the scene and the overall tone of the short.
Editing- The editing that has been used is a straight cut this makes that short flow better than it would if other editing techniques were used, but the straight cuts are also used to have flashbacks to different point of the characters life.

Camera work- The camera work is establish shot a the beginning of the film so we are able to see where we are, there is also the use of a pov shot so we can see it from the perspective of one of the characters, there is also a lot of close ups and this is to show the changes in the characters and also medium shots for more of the same effects.
Representation- From what i can understand addiction can have some serious repercussions and that you can't trust anyone as you don't know wha they will do to you.

A Favour
Mise en scene- In terms of what we can see in the setting is very realistic as it is set in a residential area and the other setting ad dan element of realism to the short.
Sound- The sound that we hear throughout the short is both the dialogue from the characters and there is also diegetic sound as we can hear in the background noises such as the tv/radio when they are in the different houses as well as sirens later on in the film- the use of diegetic sound can add a sense of realism to this film.
Editing- The editing that is being used in the short film is parallel editing there are two different character and we get to see their life until they meet up in a car park, the reason that it was use was so that we could see the two contrasting character with very similar home lives.
Representation- I think that the representation is
-people aren't always who they seem to be
-a simple favour can have serious repercussions
MECH: HUMAN TRIALS
mise en scene- The setting as a realistic setting as it is set in the normal city environment that does exist within modern day and it can add a bit of realism, but as much as it can within a sci-fi short film.
Sound- The sound that is used in the short, there is the narration from the main character this can help give more explanation of their situation and can explain a bit more about the plot of the short with out giving us all the details so that we can fill in the blanks.
